photo: Marques’Almedia Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida subscribe to the Helmut Lang school of thought, where ‘fashion is about attitude not hemlines’. While their aesthetic evokes raw effortlessness, the pair’s technical sensibilities are revealed in the construction of each piece. Their work hovers between impulse and consideration.Cutting their teeth at Vivienne Westwood and Preen respectively, Marques and Almeida took the natural course of combining talents while during their MA course work at Central Saint Martins. 

The two designers launched Marques’Almedia in April 2011 and showed for their first 2 seasons under Lulu Kennedy’s platform – Fashion East. In 2014 they were awarded NEWGEN sponsorship from the British Fashion Council/Topshop, showing for 5 seasons as a part of NEWGEN. An exciting award in May 2015 for Marques’Almedia the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers inspired their foray into launching a debut Resort collection and later in 2015, the duo staged their first independent on schedule show for Spring Summer 2016. In 2015 Marques’Almedia ere asked to design costumes for the New York City Ballet’s Fourth Annual Fall Fashion Gala, conceived by Sarah Jessica Parker, appearing in September 2015. Their A/W 2017 collection utilises bold geometrics and stripes.
